VST and AudioUnits (also AUs and Components) are the two native plugin formats for Mac OS X. There are many VST and AU plugins for expanding your sounds and effects. However, it can be difficult to to install these plugins if they don’t come bundled with a native installer (or instructions). In the following tutorial, we’ll show you how to get VSTs/AUs in the right place so that you can use them in your favourite DAW.
Step 1 – Located the plugin folder
The usual location of the folder should be:
Macintosh HD/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/(choose either Component or VST folder)
install-vst-component-au-plugin-mac
Step 2 – Installing VSTs and AudioUnits (Components)
1. Unzip the file if it is an archive like. Within the plugin folder you should see a file with a .vst or .component extension. This is the actual plugin file.
2. Move the .vst or .component file to the respected folder (VST for VST and Component for Component)
3. Start your DAW and you will now be able to use your shiny new plugin.
4. The video below will show you how to install both the plugin itself and it’s presets on a Mac.
