★ MODULAR RESOURCES ★

I find Learning Modular to be the most comprehensive resource for…learning modular: http://learningmodular.com

ModularGrid is THE place for learning about different manufacturer’s modules all in one spot, planning a rack, and there are some you can play with right in your browser! http://modulargrid.net

Here are some software approaches to modular or semi-modular synthesis that I or musicians I trust have had experience with, but there are many more out there:

Reaktor (desktop)
Audulus (desktop and mobile)
VCV Rack (desktop)
Model 15 (mobile)
Max/MSP (desktop)
Pure Data (desktop and mobile)
Xodular (desktop)
Automatonism (desktop)
SunVox (desktop and mobile)
Solorack (desktop)
Aalto (desktop)
Softube Modular (desktop)

And if you’re interested in a more affordable approach to the hardware, I would recommend 2hp and Erica Synths for smaller but still highly functional modules; Bastl Kastle or Bitranger for battery-powered lo-fi patching fun; and the Make Noise 0-Coast and Moog Mother-32 for full-fledged, beautiful sounding semi-modular voices.
Or if you’re down to solder, Google for some DIY kits!
